Kensho vs. Satori: The 3-Step Framework to Reset Your Life

Author | Siddharth Anantharam, Cofounder Unlimits

In my journey of personal growth, I learned that human beings generally grow in one of two ways. The first is Kensho, which is growth through pain. This happens when life forces you to change: a business fails, a relationship ends, or a bad blood test wakes you up to your failing health. Kensho works, but it is slow and it hurts.

The second, far more powerful path is Satori, which is growth through sudden moments of insight and awakening. Satori lets you accelerate simply by shifting your perspective, reading a powerful book, or choosing to pursue a new path.

Dream, Manifest, Achieve

To invite more Satori into my life and stop waiting for Kensho to force my hand, I adopted a simple three-step system.

Dream: Define exactly what you want and attach a specific date to it. A dream without a date is just a dream.

Manifest: Close your eyes, project yourself into the future, and vividly feel what it will be like when you get there. By soaking in the emotion of the end result, you rewire your brain to seek it out.

Achieve: Take one single, small action today.

Achieving your dreams does not require initial confidence. Confidence is the result of committing to something far into the future, and that commitment happens right now.
